Ah-Ha Moment from Architect Laura Middleton, AIA, LEED AP:

“The owners wanted the new sunroom to feel and look as if it was original to the
house. The casement windows are surrounded by wood trim inside and out, and the wood panels give just the right amount of detail to complement the brick house. Another challenge was the existing porch ceiling, which was less than eight feet. Removing the ceiling framing and installing a new wood ceiling on the angle of the roof rafters provided space for insulation and made the room feel more spacious. Creating this new ceiling was our ‘ah-ha’ moment. We knew lifting it up several feet would give the room a completely different look. The walls were then finished with wood planks, and faux wood beams were added to the ceiling in order to add visual interest and prevent a ‘blank wall’ problem. The sunroom was connected to the existing living room with three sets of double glass doors to extend the living space and bring the marsh view to the interior of the house.”
